Braxfield are working with a social housing provider in the Midlands that are looking to recruit into a new role within the Health & Safety team. The role is titled Fire Safety Manager and has been created in response to the Hackett Review and post-Grenfell report recommendations.

There has clearly been a drive in recent years to make improvements around fire safety and the compliance that surrounds it, bringing experts in the field into social housing providers to take ownership of this specialist area and advise and lead landlords on best practices going forward. Our client is very much looking for said expert to join them to ensure that tenants are as safe as they can possibly be in their homes.

The role of Fire Safety Manager is a relatively new one in the sector and has by in large come about from the post-Grenfell recommendations. It is a very interesting position for the right person as it encompasses an asset management function, a compliance function, health & safety, procurement and a lot of customer engagement so one could say that it would suit a good allrounder!

Initially a key part of the role for the successful candidate will be to look at the existing properties and familiarise themselves with the types of build and the age and look at the maintenance and compliance contracts that are in place for each. From here you will begin to work closely with the Head of Health & Safety and other key stakeholders to develop plans for key asset related fire safety systems and the delivery of investment works and new development schemes. In the short to medium term you will also be pivotal in creating a ‘Permit to Work’ system to ensure full control of activities across of the housing providers blocks. Throughout, you will be expected to be well informed and up-to-date with ever changing fire safety regulations and recommendations and ensure that this important information is fed through to the relevant teams that you will be working with.

The successful fire safety manager will be busy but rest assured you won’t need to deliver all of this on your own, you will be supported by an experienced team to help you along the way. With this said, some prior experience of managing and motivating a team would be looked upon favourably. Our client has also advised that they expect candidates to hold a relevant professional technical qualification and be able to evidence of continuous development through their career to date.

If this sounds of interest and you are looking for your next permanent position then please do apply and submit your CV. In addition to being a leading and well thought of Midlands employer our client also offers:

Free health plan membership

A free 24/7 support line and access to counselling
