Engineering Maintenance Assistant - Mechanical

Location: St Thomas’ Hospital, Central London
Salary: £26,000 - £29,000
Hours: Full-time, permanent
 

The Role

This role supports the daily maintenance of engineering plant and building services across one of the busiest and most iconic hospitals in the UK. You’ll assist the wider engineering team in reactive and planned maintenance, fault-finding and general repairs across the estate.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the operation, maintenance and minor repairs of plant and equipment
• Assisting with mechanical works including pumps, valves, and drive belts
• Helping isolate systems and perform changeovers when breakdowns occur
• Working under the guidance of experienced engineers to carry out basic fault finding
• Responding to breakdowns and helping restore equipment to service promptly
• Performing manual tasks such as working at heights and in confined spaces

What You’ll Bring

• Previous experience working in a mechanical or engineering environment (building services or estates preferred)
• A proactive, safety-conscious approach to work
• Willingness to learn, follow instructions and grow with the role
• Comfortable using tools and working in physically demanding settings
• Flexibility to work occasional overtime when needed
