Braxfield Recruitment have been engaged by an affordable housing provider based in the midlands that are looking to appoint a Building Safety Manager to oversee and advise on the fire safety management of the homes they own and look after. The position of Building Safety Manager within the housing arena is a relatively new one and has been created as a result of recommendations made by the Hackett Review and post-Grenfell report.

The ideal candidate will have a background in the affordable housing sector that encompasses both property maintenance / management and fire safety together with excellent interpersonal skills and an appetite for data management and compliance monitoring. A key part of the role will be to advise on the development of the housing providers approach to building safety cases and to ensure clear accountabilities for collection and maintenance of data.

The building safety manager will work effectively with the asset and development teams to aid the effective management of fire safety risks associated with asset management activities and the delivery of investment works and new development schemes. They will need to keep abreast of fire safety requirements taking into account any changes in government policy, legislation, regulation or guidance to ensure the housing provider has effective protocols and contracts in place through which to ensure it complies with all regulation and legislation applicable to fire safety. The building safety manager will also work across directorates to map out a strategy for fire safety in blocks which will include its permit to work system to ensure control of all activities.

Obviously the building safety manager will not be expected to deliver all of this on their own and so there is a requirement to have previously managed staff effectively, creating a positive team ethic and achieving performance targets, taking action to improve where required. The team will comprise of fire risk surveyors and an administrative function.
